Everyone has heard of famous proverbs because people, all around us, often use them. Just because you have heard them does not mean that you know what their true meaning is. Some wise sayings can have more than one meaning, so always listen closely when you hear someone quoting one of these phrases, who knows, you may learn something from them.
First
Have you ever noticed something on the ground that has a very shiny appearance? "All that glitters is not gold" is a very popular saying that many have found to be true. When you pick that shiny object up off of the ground, you were probably disappointed to find that it was worthless. Lots of things, that hold no value, have a shiny, glittery appearance. After you spotted the item on the ground, the temptation to pick it up was too strong to ignore.

Second
"Better safe than sorry" is a very common saying that you have probably heard of before. This is trying to tell you that you should prepare for things that may happen. Say for instance, if you are getting ready to go on a road trip with your family, you should prepare for potential mishaps such as; vehicle mechanical problems, personal injuries, or loss of personal items. You are never assured of your safety, but it is better to be prepared, than not. If you are fully prepared you will be able to handle the situation better than if you are unprepared.
Third
Have you ever had someone to tell you to do something in a particular way, but find out that they do not follow their own instructions? "Do as I say not as I do" is a great example of this. Many teachers will give their students instructions on how to complete a math problem without using their fingers to calculate it, but in truth they will use their fingers to tally up the total.

Fourth
"If at first you don't succeed, try, try again", this proverb is encouraging you to never give up. Many people will attempt to do something that is difficult, but will fail in the process. It is important that you get back up there and try again. It may take you a couple of times to succeed, but you will be rewarded greatly when you do. If you quit you will never be rewarded with the great feeling of being proud of yourself for being diligent and successful.
